16 BLOCKS

16BLOCKS.gif
Here at Coolopedia we're eagerly anticipating the release of the new Bruce Willis film. Starring Mos Def who is "regarded as one of hip-hop's most introspective and insightful artists" according to IMDB the plot is based around an aging cop (Willis), assigned the ordinary task of escorting a fast-talking witness (Def) from police custody to a courthouse. There are however forces at work trying to stop prevent them from making it.

It doesn't sound that great but US audiences have given it good reviews and my eternal source for film info, the IMDB gives it a 6.7/10.

GNARLS BARKLEY - GNARLIE DUDE

Far too cool for most of us to mention Gnarls (pronounced Niles) Barkley is the first ever artist to reach the top of the charts through downloads alone. "Crazy" is a record breaker and to hear the story, listen here.

Mynx - I'm So L.A

mynx.jpg

Mynx
are a new synth punk cabaret outfit who have been have been described as the electro Sonny and Cher, which I don't quite understand as there are three of them but nevermind. They come from LA and their first single "I'm So L.A" is dedicated to all the trashy wannabees that make their home there.

Hacienda Classics Mixed By Peter Hook

hc.jpg

I don't know what took them so long to come up with this idea. Every club, dj and his uncle has released a compilation and most of them are not worth a second listen. Therefore a CD that is based on one of the most iconic and important UK clubs of the 80s/90s mixed by a member of New Order is long overdue. Hacienda Classics contains 3CDs full of classic house tunes, more than enough to send you back to your raving days.

The Rumble Strips On Tour

The Rumble Strips are a new band that sound pretty much like no one else around at the moment, about the closest comparison you could make is with Dexy's Midnight Runners - which is no bad thing. They have recently got good write ups of their performance at South By Southwest from The Sun and Pitchfork Media and are touring round the UK at the moment.

Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking

"Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking" by Malcolm Gladwell is a book that everyone seems to be talking about at the moment. It is about the the thinking that happens in the blink of an eye when you first encounter something. Those immediate decisions are often found to be extremely insightful and this book explores how that can be.
